Well, it certainly is an amazingly quick way to bring a lot of useful applications together. Like many other bloggers I think I have probably gone overboard but I can always delete. I wondered whether I would really use the cheap petrol info but find that the petrol station closest to my work has the cheapest petrol so I probably will.

#7 Google Books

I have just looked up a book, viewed pages,read the reviews and ordered the book through Amazon. It's so quick and informative. I often find that when reading professional development material certain books are referenced and they are often out of print. How good is this site for putting me in touch with the text. I will definately be using it in the future.

#6 Google Maps

I love Google Maps. I have to enter my mileage when I travel from school to school and I am notoriously bad at it. Google maps allows me to work out the mileage and fudge the records quite successfully.I also like the way that GM's presents the viewer with alternative pathways to a destination and even provides a view of what the destinatin should look like.

#5 Google Docs

Well, I am finally back after an extremely busy time at work. I did try Zoho writer and realised it had great potential for my work. As literacy consultants we often have a shared task to attend to. To date we have put a document on a shared drive and one person at a time attends to it. With Zoho writer we can all be working on the document at the same time. I would like to see how this might work with a small group of students. I imagine hat when our students get to the stage of working on IPad style tablets that Google docs type applications will come into their own.

#4 web 2.0 technology

The thing I like best about Web 2.0 is the participatory nature of it. The way certain elements allow you to use technology to collaboratively build knowledge between people. As someone who has watched my son stuggle through school and then blossum when he found his passion after leaving through collaborative engagement with others, I cannot help but feel that the current education system is failing many of our young people because it does not harness the preferred social interactional apptitudes of our younger generations. If schools could harness the potential of Web 2 technologies we would see a huge change in the way schools manage their learning environments and I'm sure a noticeable difference in student participation.
